Evening News

I finished the last hat in the queue today.

hatmione

This is Hatmione, almost like the one Hermione wore in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Mine as you may or may not be able to tell from the photo is pink rather than red like the movie version and is knit out of Malabrigo (yes more Malabrigo).

Other than the hat I really haven't knit much over the last week. I'm thinking now that I need to knit myself a sweater, possibly a wrappy one, I happened upon this site while visiting blogs the other day and was totally inspired. I'll let you know more once I decide.

At the moment I'm also totally obsessed with the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon, I just can't put these books down. I would never have picked these books up myself (the story seemed a little stupid until I got reading) but so many people recommended them I thought I would give them a try.

But the biggest news of all is...

One of the guys I work with wants to learn to knit. I'm so excited, not only because of the opportunity to turn yet another innocent over to the dark side but because this person just so happens to be male. And get this, he has already got the yarn. So the adventure begins.

just can't get enough

I finished another hat.

abby's hat

This one is from Last Minute Knitted Gifts, with just a slight modification to make up for a change in gauge. Now have I said this already? Malabrigo is the softest yarn ever. I'm totally hooked. As soon as I finished the hat I started this...

gauntlet

The first of a pair of gauntlets, also from LMKG. This yarn has loads of yardage, I haven't weighed it but I must have at least half of the skein left. As you can see I'm using the Magic Loop. The yarn is spiraling nicely in alternating dark and light stripes which compliments the spiral ribbing nicely. I can't wait until these are finished.

I'm also looking forward to this weekend. My Mum and I are going to the One of a Kind Show. This is the first year that I haven't had exams and/or critiques so I can actually go. I'm hoping to get some Christmas gifts there.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog. After months of technical difficulties on the old one I decided that it was time to find a new home. But, enough of that let's get to what this blog is really about, knitting.

Right now I feel like a one girl hat factory. This week (so far) I have knit two hats.

Nick's Hat

This little gem is for my dear friend Nick. He is 5 years old and very adamant that the hat be blue and not red (his formerly favorite colour) because red is for girls. Who knew?

prize

This hat here will be a door prize at my work Christmas party. Although it looks a little elfish right now once it is on the ribbing stretches out and it is more of a cloche. The photo doesn't do the colours justice. In real life they look like stained glass. The multi-coloured yarn is Lion Brand Homespun which is terrible to work with because the main strand of yarn bunches up along the binder (the black thread that holds the loosely spun single together) and that just drives me crazy. The colours totally made up for it this time.

I also ventured into the big city of Toronto this weekend for the Crafternoon Tea. There was lots of really great things there by some fabulous craftspeople. Although I didn't stay long (it was really crowded and hot) I did pick up a few things...

loot

The needle roll with the great knitting diagram silkscreen print came from Thimble who also makes some great handbags. The pink cat scarf and the three tiny buttons I bought from Tania Howells a local illustrator.

The yarn is not from the Tea, although the shop did have a table there. That yarn my friends is Malabrigo and it is the softest kettle dyed merino on earth. I'm not kidding it is like butter or a baby's bottom or what ever the softest thing is that you can think of. The shop is called The Naked Sheep and it is a lovely shop with great staff. I will definitely go back there again. The yarn will become two more hats, one for Nick's sister (the purpley one) and the pink will become a Hermione hat for myself (yes I have seen the new Harry Potter movie, it was great). I topped the afternoon off with a Chai Latte and a cookie and that was that.

I hope you enjoy the new blog.
